Some researchers say changing the color of your plate can keep you from eating more. A study in the journal of consumer research found people served themselves more food, if the plate color matched their food color. Pasta with green pesto sauce on a white plate looked larger than on a green flowered plate. The theory is: the more contrast, the less you're likely to eat. Widely used cholesterol lowering drugs raise levels of blood sugar and cause confusion and memory loss. The FDA will (soon) add warnings to all statins. Most (medical) doctors believe that statins significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and heart disease but if it also causes pathological changes that lead to increased incidences of diabetes, which causes increased incidences of heart attacks, perhaps it is time to discourage people from taking statins. "The value of statins in preventing heart disease has been clearly established," Amy Egan, deputy director for safety in FDA's Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology Products, said in a statement. Their benefit is indisputable, but they need to be taken with care and knowledge of their side effects." Egan obviously is ignorant of the effects of magnesium and how magnesium supplementation is extraordinarily effective against most forms of heart disease and should be used instead of dangerous statins. http://www.magnesiumforlife.com/ http://publications.imva.info/index.php/e-books/magnesium-the-ultimate-heart-medicine-e-book.html The hormone Leptin is made in the fat tissues or adipose tissue and is a regulator of satiety. Its key purpose (was originally thought to be obesity) but it really is to signal the brain when the body has accumulated enough fat in adulthood and to assure the calories needed for successful pregnancy.
*Leptin resistance involves a reduced ability of Leptin receptors to respond to the effects of Leptin. This leads to increased (excessive) production of Leptin. Elevated Triglycerides levels may cause Leptin resistance. Elevated Leptin levels are known as Hyperleptinemia. Elevated Leptin levels may increase the risk of Atherosclerosis, Congestive Heart Failure and Hypertension. Excessive Leptin may Increase the Production of these Toxic Substances: Nitric Oxide and Fibrinogens. *Banks, W. A., et al. Triglycerides induce leptin resistance at the blood-brain barrier. It signals the brain to eat, usually about four hours after the previous meal. So just a few hours after you eat, the ghrelin level goes from low to high. The gut hormones, on the other hand, signal fullness. So as the food leaves the stomach and goes into the intestine, it causes another set of hormones that are in the distal part of the small bowel to release hormones called incretions, and they go to the brain and say you have eaten, you are full, stop eating. I am very excited about sharing and being able to practice my newly learned art! Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) originated in ancient China and has evolved over thousands of years. TCM practitioners use herbs, acupuncture, and other methods to treat a wide range of conditions. In the United States, TCM is considered part of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Herbal remedies and acupuncture are the treatments most commonly used by TCM practitioners. Other practices include moxibustionln, cupping, massage, mind-body therapy, and dietary therapy. The TCM view of how the human body works, what causes illness, and how to treat illness is different from Western Medicine concepts. TCM is typically delivered by a practitioner. The TCM approach uses eight principles* to analyze symptoms and categorize conditions: cold/heat, interior/exterior, excess/deficiency, and yin/yang (the chief principles). TCM also uses the theory of five elements*—fire, earth, metal, water, and wood—to explain how the body works; these elements correspond to particular organs and tissues in the body. Examples of TCM Uses and Studies Both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been used and studied for a wide range of conditions. A few examples are:
